Many basic and clinical research opportunities are available at Washington University Medical Center. Research at the School of Medicine was supported through grants and contracts totaling more than $596 million to support faculty research efforts during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. The Medical School is one of the largest recipients of funding for research and training from the National Institutes of Health.
Through June 30, 2011, Department of Surgery researchers received more than $19 million in annual NIH, non-federal and corporate-supported grants.
The Department has approximately 61,000 square feet of laboratory space in three research buildings.
Fellows are encouraged to explore research opportunities in surgery, immunology, genetics and other fields of endeavor as well as to apply for extramural funding to support investigation into their own interests.
