The Medical School is one of the largest recipients of funding for research and training from the National Institutes of Health.

Through June 30, 2011, Department of Surgery researchers received more than $19 million in annual NIH, non-federal and corporate-supported grants.

The Department has approximately 61,000 square feet of laboratory space in three research buildings.
